MISSION

Embracing cutting-edge technologies, we envision a planet where resources are utilized efficiently, waste is minimized, and environmental harmony flourishes. Our commitment to pioneering solutions will inspire a global shift towards a greener, resilient, and thriving world for all."

VISION

Established in January 2022, the TAWA Compost Food Rescue project is rapidly growing and driven by a clear mission. We're dedicated to reducing food waste by composting and rescuing edible items that would otherwise end up in landfills.
Around 40% of the food we process is redistributed for human consumption through partnerships with Los Angeles non-profit organizations. Our commitment to sustainability is evident, and our REGEN CORPS Workforce Development Program plays a crucial role. This program empowers individuals from various backgrounds, equipping them with valuable skills and knowledge, not only supporting our food rescue and composting efforts but also opening doors to career opportunities.
Central to our mission is producing high-quality compost, which enhances landscapes and promotes sustainable agriculture. We aim to inspire individuals to participate in zero-waste initiatives, aligning with 14 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
We go beyond waste management, championing methods to convert waste into energy and valuable raw materials. We believe in making the most of every resource to build a sustainable future.
We collaborate with local community gardens and plan to expand into urban centers, providing fresh produce and compost to enhance soil quality and community well-being. People from various regions, including LA County, Antelope Valley, Riverside, and Orange County, have been drawn to our food distribution.
Our mission is not just about waste management and sustainability. We're committed to providing in creating valuable experience through our REGEN CORPS Workforce Development Program, inspiring the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs to lead the way toward a more sustainable and innovative future.

Meet the Founder/CEO

TAWA Compost Food Rescue Founder, David Alexander, is a serial entrepreneur who started at the young age of 8 years old in his business pursuits selling popsicles. After spending years focusing on a bicycle business manufacturing tools and unobtainable vintage bicycle components, David became interested in food rescue, formulating the idea of TAWA Compost Food Rescue after volunteering with Food Forward and LA Compost. He realized that there was a disconnect between food rescue and the composting process and believed he could create a significant impact by marrying the two. Subsequently David proposed his ideas to his professor at LA Trade Tech as an urban intervention project in 2021. This project went on to win funding from the US Composting Council in 2022, and has grown into a thriving climate impacting initiative by inspiring new composting businesses to launch food rescue operations. David’s foundation in commerce taught him that many things that are discarded can be transformed to provide value. He applies this principle to TAWA Compost Food Rescue today, turning ‘trash’ into gold.
